My name is Chris Jay Becker. I’m The Copy Cat.
No, not the Copycat. The Copy Cat.
It’s a silly thing to call myself. My parents were Beatniks in the 1950s, so I grew up with, “Cat” being used in my house in the same way that I’d use Dude. “That cat was a gas, man,” my mom would say about Ray Charles or Miles Davis or whoever.
Can ya dig it? I knew that you could.
I write advertising copy. For ten years, I have studied the Art, Science, and Business of Copywriting. I’m a veteran writer and a veteran sales/marketing pro.
I have over 40 years of experience as a freelance journalist, fiction writer, and comedy writer, and over 40 years of experience in sales.
I’m a comparative rookie at making my living as a copywriter, a content writer, and a content marketer. That’s why my Portfolio is filled with samples, such as Sales Letters, that I wrote as a student of AWAI, where I completed their prestigious Accelerated Course for Seven-Figure Copywriting. I’ve done a few dozen Freelance gigs in the last ten years, but, as I start booking better jobs, my portfolio will change.
If you’re reading this you’re either a prospective employer, or you’re a fellow newbie copywriter like me. So I’m writing this blog to pass on the lessons I’ve learned about copywriting, content writing, comedy writing, content marketing, the Art of Selling, and maybe even some good old-fashioned PMA and LOA. I’ve learned from the best… like copywriting legends Michael Masterson, Bob Bly, David Ogilvie, Rebecca Matter, and from PMA gurus like my old boss W. Clement Stone, and his friend and co-author Napoleon Hill.
The articles in this, The Copy Cat Blog, will eventually become a series of books on copywriting, content writing, and the like. “The Copy Cat’s Guide to: Copywriting,” “The Copy Cat’s Guide to: Content Writing,” “The Copy Cat’s Guide to: Writing White Papers,” etc. Then maybe people will actually read this blog’s content.
This will be fun.
